Bougainvillea (Yellow)

A bougainvillea is a genus of flowering vines, shrubs, and trees known for its thorny stems and vibrant, paper-like bracts. The true flowers are actually small and white, nestled within the colorful bracts.

• Sunlight: Provide at least six hours of direct, full sunlight per day. Insufficient sun will result in more green foliage and fewer flowers.
• Soil: Use a sandy, well-draining soil mix with a slightly acidic pH (5.5–6.0). In pots, add perlite or sand to improve drainage and use a container with drainage holes.
• Watering: As a drought-tolerant plant, the bougainvillea prefers to be kept on the drier side once established.
• Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer with higher phosphorus content during the growing season, from spring to fall. Over-fertilizing with nitrogen can lead to excessive foliage at the expense of flowers.
• Pruning: Regular pruning is essential to shape the plant and encourage abundant blooms, as flowers grow on new branches.
